Itineraries

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver guide will take you to Akagera National Park. You will enjoy a half day game drive before heading to Lake Ihema for sunset boat ride, perfect for bird watching and spotting animals like crocodiles, hippos, and elephants, either in the water or along the lakeshore. After the boat ride, you will head to Akagera Game Lodge/Ruzizi tented lodge for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 2: Full Game Drive in Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will meet your driver guide and embark on game drive through Akagera National Park, Central Africa largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda. The park is home to the “Big Five”: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes. You will have the opportunity to see a diverse array of wildlife in their natural habitat and back to Kigali.

Day 3: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On third day of tour, you will embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa oldest rainforest, rich in biodiversity and spectacularly beautiful, on the way you will stop to King’s Palace Museum and the Ethnographic Museum to learn about Rwanda rich cultural heritage and its kingdom history, Before continuing your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, overnight in a nearby location.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy Walkway

Embark on chimpanzee trekking adventure, where you will observe these fascinating primates in their natural forest habitat. Later, you will enjoy a walk on the canopy bridge starting from the Uwinka Visitor Centre. This 160-meter-long walkway takes about 2 hours to complete, offering a bird’s-eye view of the forest.

Day 5: Kamiranzovu Waterfalls and Gisakura Tea Plantation

This morning, you will explore Kamiranzovu Waterfalls, followed by visiting Gisakura Tea Plantation. Here, you will learn about tea making process and have opportunity to sample the local brew. Afterward, you will take a drive to Karongi for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Lake Kivu and Napoleon Island

The day will begin with breakfast, followed by a boat cruise on the stunning Lake Kivu. During the cruise, you will stop at Napoleon Island to explore its unique ecosystem. You will embark on a one-hour hike, which rewards you with spectacular views of the lake.

Day 7: Volcanoes National Park

On the seventh day of tour, you will embark on a road trip to Volcanoes National Park, home to the famous mountain gorillas. Upon arrival, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn more about the conservation and preservation efforts for gorillas. Afterward, head to your lodge to relax and prepare for your exciting gorilla trekking adventure the following day.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

The most exciting day of your tour has arrived! You will rise early, enjoy breakfast, and then head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a brief orientation on the gorilla trekking code of conduct. Afterward, you will embark on your gorilla trekking adventure, one of the highlights of your Rwanda experience. You will spend time with your allocated gorilla family and observe their interaction face-to-face. Following your trek, you will enjoy lunch before visiting the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village, a community dedicated to showcasing traditional lifestyles, dances, Rwanda traditional culture. Afterward, return to your lodge for dinner and night stay.

Day 9: Kigali city tour and Departure

On the last day of tour, you will transfer from Musanze to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will explore the city, including a visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial to gain insight into the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi 1994, as well as other historical sites. You will also visit Kimironko Local Market for shopping souvenirs and gift. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
