Overview

This tour begins in Kigali, where you’ll explore the lively city before heading to the Northern part of Rwanda in Musanze, for your memorable gorilla and golden monkey trekking adventures, as well as a visit to the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village. The tour continues to Nyungwe National Park, known for its various primates and breathtaking scenery, including a visit to the Gisakura Tea Estate. The tour concludes with a scenic drive back to Kigali and souvenirs shopping.

Itineraries

Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Musanze

Your experience in Rwanda starts with a city tour of Kigali, the vibrant capital city of Rwanda. Explore the city’s local markets and visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and learn about the country’s history and resilience. After a tasty lunch, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Musanze, home to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival in Musanze, you’ll check in at the hotel and have the evening to relax and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Ibyiwacu Cultural Village

Rise early for the highlight of your trip which is mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After a short briefing at the park headquarters in Kinigi, you’ll start trekking in the forest, searching for one of the mountain gorilla families. The experience of observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat is truly unforgettable. In the afternoon, visit the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village, where you’ll learn about the traditional way of life of the formal poachers through interactive demonstrations and cultural performances including dances, songs, and traditional musical instruments. Return to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking and Ellen DeGeneres Campus

Today, you’ll leave early for the golden monkey trek, another primate species found in Volcanoes National Park. These playful creatures are a joy to watch as they play and feed on the bamboo forests. After your golden monkey trekking, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus, established by the famous American comedian and talk show host to honour the legacy of Dian Fossey, a pioneering primatologist who studied the mountain gorillas in Rwanda to learn more about gorillas’ well being and overall, about their conservation. Later go back to the hotel to spend your final night in Musanze.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park & Gisakura Tea Estate Visit

A scenic road trip from Musanze to Nyungwe National Park, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Gisakura Tea Estate, to learn about the tea-making process and sample some of Rwanda’s finest teas. As the road trip continues, you’ll keep enjoying the stunning views before you. Arrive and check-in at the hotel, for an evening relaxation while preparing for the next day.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking, Kamiranzovu Waterfalls and Canopy Walkway

Today, you are presented with 2 options either do a chimpanzee trekking experience and Canopy Walkway or do a chimpanzee trekking and visit the stunning Kamiranzovu Waterfalls. Chimpanzee trekking is an exciting experience, where your guide takes you through the dense forest to search for the primates. On the other hand, the Kamiranzovu Waterfalls offer a serene and breathtaking view, alongside exploring the forest for a bird-watching experience. Alternatively, Canopy Walkway offers a unique angle view of the forest high above the ground on a 160-meter walkway. Whichever option you choose to go with, you can be sure that you will get to experience the best of Nyungwe National Park.

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali with Local Market Visit and Airport Drop-off

On the last day of your tour, enjoy a well-prepared breakfast before starting your drive back to Kigali. Along the way, you’ll pass by a local market or craft shop to shop for some souvenirs of your trip to Rwanda. After arriving in Kigali, depending on your plans, you’ll be dropped off at the Kigali International Airport or your hotel for a final night in Rwanda.
