About Kahuzi Biega National Park
The Kahuzi-Biega National Park (KBNP) was established in 1970 to conserve the Grauer’s gorilla, the world’s largest gorilla species. This park is the only place where visitors can see these gorillas in the wild. Covering an area of 6,000 km², the park is situated in eastern DRC, the country’s most densely populated region. Kahuzi Biega National Park lies west of Bukavu town in South Kivu Province, bordering Rwanda. The park spans a smaller mountainous sector and a larger lowland terrain connected by a narrow corridor. The eastern part is mountainous, while the larger western part is mainly lowland.
