8 Days, Rwanda Hike, Kayak & Bike Expedition.
Embark on a scenic boat tour in lake Kivu and visit Napoleon island, known for it's diverse birdlife experience and panoramic views of Lake Kivu and surrounding hills.
Your three day hiking expedition begins as we join the northern section of the legendary Congo Nile Trail. This stage is characterized by unique bays and hidden islands, requiring us to cross the Muregeya River via a swaying suspension bridge before following ancient local footpaths up and down the terraced hillsides. The route winds through dense banana forests and vibrant rural settlements, offering a raw look at the diverse landscapes that define the Kivu belt. This is a day of constant elevation change and stunning lake views, ending at a ridge top guest house that overlooks the Rift Valley.
Today is a challenging but rewarding stage of the trail, taking us high above the Koko River Valley on a path that offers some of the most expansive views in all of Rwanda. The trail is steep and technical in sections, requiring stamina as we navigate the high ridges before descending toward the water’s edge at Kinunu.
The final leg of our hiking expedition follows the periphery of Lake Kivu, moving through traditional fishing harbors and vibrant shoreline villages where the rhythm of life is dictated by the water. This 14 km walk provides a beautiful transition as we bid farewell to the lake and enjoy a final picnic lunch on its banks. In the afternoon, we leave the Rift Valley and drive north toward the dramatic silhouettes of the Virunga Volcanoes. The air cools as we ascend toward the park, arriving at our eco lodge in time to prepare for tomorrow’s high altitude summit.
Mount Bisoke offers a scenic hike to the signature crater lake found on the summit. enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and beautiful surroundings while taking in the refreshing breeze.
Today we mount our bikes for a 60 km ride along the dramatic "Chain of Volcanoes," pedaling along the base of the Virungas. The route takes us through high altitude farming communities to the historic Mugongo estate, the former home of the late humanitarian and author Rosamond Carr. After a heritage focused lunch at this beautifully situated property, we continue our ride toward the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. The day concludes with a scenic descent toward the lakeshore, where a tranquil evening awaits at our lodge overlooking the water.
Enjoy breathtaking views of the lush green shorelines and Virunga Mountains as you paddle along the Mukungwa River for an adventurous canoeing experience. You will be transfered to the Kigali international airport for your departure and this marks the end of your tour with us.
